4-H Tech Wizards Testify Before County Commission and Hillsboro City Council

Release Date:

“The Washington County Commission and the Hillsboro City Council voted Tuesday night on a proposed Strategic Investment Program agreement (SIP 2005) with Intel Corporation. The agreement set the stage for Intel to invest up to $25 billion more in Oregon, maintain thousands of jobs at Intel and elsewhere, and continue to support the communities where Intel employees live and work.”

- Bill MacKenzie, Intel Public Relations

4-H Tech Wizards Maria Ramirez, Hillsboro High School senior, and Byron Sun, Forest Grove High School senior, both members of the Intel Community Advisory Panel, testified at the hearing, adding their voices to the discussion. Both provided testimony regarding the added value of Intel in the Latino communities and especially to the support that they each have received thanks to the investment that Intel has made in public education and to community organizations such as 4-H Tech Wizards. Byron and Maria both spoke to the role of Intel employee mentors in helping them understand the value of volunteerism, and community engagement, as well as the importance of education in math, science, and technology. Both Byron and Maria will be the first in their families to graduate high school and the first to go to college.
