4-H Tech Wizards Explore New Internet Technologies

Date: February 2007

On February 8th the Washington County 4-H Tech Wizards launched a new website which is a collaborative effort to design a youth-friendly location where Tech Wizard students can practice existing skills and utilize emerging technologies to develop new skills for communication, business, education, etc.

With the help of Intel mentors Josh Bancroft and Marlleen Montelongo, the pilot site is up and running. Over the next few months, we expect it to incorporate dynamic features such as discussion groups, chats, online data creation and storage, Podcasting, blogs, etc. The site will be monitored to insure appropriate use and insure a safe place for our 4-H Tech Wizard students.

With Josh and Marleen’s help, Tech Wizard students are learning how to publish podcasts, how to write posts and how put up pictures. On February 24th a training workshop run by Josh and a group of Tech Wizards who attended a Technology Conference in Nebraska in 2006 will share their knowledge with other Tech Wizards. Sharing knowledge is a way of providing a service to the community. According to Tech Wizard, Clara, “This website is a way for us to give back while having a blast doing it.”

“In 4-H we don’t just work hard we have fun and we get to meet awesome people that we will cherish all our lives. It’s the best program you can be in!!!”
