| Intel Corporation Becomes Title Sponsor of Washington County 4-H Tech Wizards Date: May 2007 Late this spring, Intel Corporation recommitted their financial support for the Washington County 4-H Tech Wizard program. Intel has committed to contribute $50,000 per year for three consecutive years. This represents 25% of the current operational costs of the Tech Wizard program and continues their strong support of the program. Since 1999 when the program was established, Intel has helped enable the success and achievements of the Tech Wizard students through continually providing cash grants, volunteers, and in-kind donations. This latest gift of support and commitment brings their total financial support to well over $750,000. In recognition of this support, Washington County 4-H is pleased to announce that we have renamed the program the Intel 4-H Tech Wizards program. Intel Oregon’s key education objectives include:
The Intel 4-H Tech Wizard program closely aligns with Intel’s objectives in that the program is focused on school retention, development of life and leadership skills, and technology training through practical application in “real world” projects. The program also focuses on diversity, another area promoted by Intel. Students in the program represent groups under-represented in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math education and careers. There are seven different languages spoken among the participants and one half the students are female. The key to the success of the program is the close relationship between the students and mentors. Intel employees and others have provided hundreds of hours teaching and mentoring students. The results have been astonishing. 97.5% of the Tech Wizard students graduate from high school and 90% pursue post-high school education and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. We are also delighted to announce that Lizbeth Gonzalez, one of our students and graduating senior from Hillsboro High School, received a full scholarship to Rice University in Houston, Texas this year. Lizbeth plans to major in technology and environmental studies – two passions she developed during her participation in the Intel 4-H Tech Wizard program.
