=================================< Br /> October 28 (last updated June 23, 2010 below) < ; br /> =================================< br />
Why ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell-PU17-BU 10 1-inch Blue Netbook two days ago. My first impression is that this is a great computer. Below are more detailed comments.
1) OS: Windows Starter
———————- ——–< br /> Works really well without any problems. I think the second 1GB of RAM would be faster, but I can easily live without it, my main purpose of taking research notes, writing papers and accessing the Internet.
I have not had a chance to try out all of my software yet, but Windows Office 2007, Wiki blade, Chrome and other software programs I use often work just fine. Windows 7 Starter does not run more than three applications. I have four open now.
Fortunately, I had no difficulty in enabling the language support (IME) of Japan and China. Generally speaking, I also found some things a little more intuitive than XP or Vista. At this stage I see no reason to buy the upgrade.
Inability to change the desktop picture is the mean-spirited marketing decision, I hope Microsoft again. Not only that, but the wallpaper makes it appear you have crack or dust on the screen. To work around this and speed up your computer slightly in the process. When the Start menu, right-click computer, select properties, system configuration, performance, and “Adjust for best performance.” Your background is blue.
2) Screen
————————- —–< Br /> A surprisingly bright and clear. Yes, it is a small, but so is the computer:)
3) Keyboard
—————— ————< br /> I have no problems at all by writing it. Some owners of recent models have complained to Asus perverted space. Space itself is slightly elevated on the left. However, I believe this was intentional. When you press the blue function key with the “Running Man” sign on the left, it switches the power settings (see comments below the keyboard update).
4) battery
—– ————————-< br /> I’m still not sure how to get the advertised 10 5, but I’m easy to get 9 + hours out of it in sleep mode. That’s incredible. Power supply is rather small and it seems to download very quickly.
5) sturdiness / Quality
—————– ————-< br /> computer seems surprisingly stable and less flimsy than the more expensive computer I’ve bought in the past. It’s not the most elegant computer there, but it seems well built. It is a wonderful lack of annoying lights. No power light on the top right corner. The blue LED is annoying (because it is most computers do nowadays), but much less of a problem than others out there. If the computer manufacturers to put the power light is back on the bottom right hand over the rest of the lights I would be grateful.
6) Partitions
————— —————< br /> My memory is divided into C and D drive. There are good reasons not to partition, but personally, I find nothing. It is relatively easy to change the partition.
7) bloatware
———————– ——-< br /> one or two programs (as far as I can tell) that I was quickly removed. Absolutely nothing, as the last computer, which was more than a dozen.
========================= ========< br /> November 5, 2009 UPDATE
=========================== ======< br />
It is a great computer and I would not hesitate to buy it again if I had the chance. This size (10 1 inch) and this information (battery, memory, etc.) seems to be the best computer on the market. I still give it 5 stars.
However, I have been concerned with the keyboard. Make sure to check it thoroughly when it arrives. I ordered the same model for someone else and it came to what looked like a melted the keys next to the space. We sent it back to Amazon and the replacement was a new one is good.
My “w” key to put the second day. I have sprayed some compressed air under it and it started again. I never eat or drink near the computer, so I can not imagine what it was. This is the first time I’ve had something happen on any computer. It has happened in about a week ago and has worked well.
Looking at last year’s models in stock, I realize that my “warped” space key is likely to have been intentional. It does not hit the screen and is barely noticeable, so I did not send it back to replace it. I am still satisfied with the product in its entirety, but I think they really need to work in quality control of their keyboards.
====================== ===========< br /> November 17, 2009 UPDATE
======================== =========< br />
I am still very pleased with the product. I just wanted to write another update here encourages potential buyers to ensure that the Amazon reviews of this product are written by people who have actually purchased and / or use this product. Those who own the previous model has been the power supply, battery and keyboard issues. I urge you to read the reviews of previous models to learn more (I do this before buying), and I understand that people are willing to share their experiences, but it seems unfair to the company and mislead consumers, the estimates have been posted here for another product (whatever the apparent similarities) .
=================================< br / > December 12, 2009 UPDATE
=================================< br />
I’ve had the computer for about two months, and I would still give it five stars. Battery indicator tells me that I am a full 10-11 hours, but I’ve never been that for hours straight and got used to test it. I can say for sure that I am very pleased with the battery.
Windows 7 is a great starter. It has not crashed once since I bought the computer. I’ve always liked XP (98 and disliked Vista), but since the time I could end up even thought of this OS. It seems pretty upbeat, even only 1 GB of RAM.
Trackpad has raised bumps and seems to work best with a delicate touch. It is OK, but personally, I like smooth surfaces. If any of the ASUS engineers reading this, I recommend the track as a Panasonic Let’s Note CF-R8 R8WWLAJP.
=================== ==============< br /> June 23, 2010 UPDATE
===================== ============< br />
COMPUTER exterior and accessories:
keyboard, monitor, and everything else is in perfect condition. The power cord is fine and no problems with it (in previous models was the question of power, apparently).
BATTERY:
As expected, the battery performance has declined over time. This is not a problem unique to this product, but the problem with any battery on any computer. I’ve used it every day since I bought it, and I estimate I get about 7 hours after the payment in sleep mode. This is still gorgeous, and about 6 hours more than what my previous laptop to get, so I’m happy.
RAM:
I came to install more memory. I do not know for sure if it really quickly, because I’ve changed, how can I use the computer. I’ve decided to stop my desktop completely, so I used the memory hogs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and so forth. Memory is relatively inexpensive, so I recommend getting it no matter what you’re doing.
OS:
I think this is a Windows Starter question, but my system slowed down considerably over time . A couple of weeks ago to back up everything and reinstall the operating system. Now it is hurry up again. I have had to reinstall the Windows operating system on a regular basis in the past with other computers, so I would say this is not a big deal. It is quite painless with the Asus. I’m going to do it about every 6 months.
Similar products:
is a newer version of this batteries and a different keyboard. I would recommend to give the ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU27-BK 10 1-inch Netbook black (up to 14 hours of battery life) to try. Asus still seems to be the best around small-computer manufacturer.
If I were to decide this and IPAD (assuming I could get both!) I would choose this one. IPAD I’ve played in shops, but the machine to get a job, it does not even come close to having the characteristics I need. It is an exciting technology, but it would be just a toy to me in its current state.
The Bottom Line:
desktop computers can be made after the owners of this netbook. I originally was home to the desktop and netbook for outside the house, but not anymore. I sold the monitor and the desktop is now hooked up to a TV streaming video. Asus has made a convert out of me.
Sometimes Asus exclusive position for me when I go out (I’m still amazed at how light it is!), And at other times of that sleepy remove your computer up to approximately same level as the monitor could be a (Logitech Notebook Riser (N110)), bluetooth mouse (Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Mac / Windows), and bluetooth keyboard (Apple Wireless Keyboard (Retail Packaging)). All of this is portable (fits in my backpack), so I can be a pleasant working environment no matter where I go.

UPDATE. . . Important information for potential buyers have read all these reviews: The ASUS model has only been out since late October. Many of the negative reviews of this product are held to mention a lot longer, so should not this exact machine.
Context of this review: This is my first netbook, and I have been a strong Mac OS and convert the last 2 1 / 2 years. I swore I would never buy any of the Windows operating system again, but I bought this because the price, size, and battery life was what I needed. I’m blue.
The Bottom Line: I have played my netbook three weeks (since the November 23 update to this review), and I can say that it is all what to expect.
;
a positive image:
– Battery life is amazing and is charged per hour (max): I made a light web-surfing a couple of hours one evening and had 82% battery life remaining, when I was ready. UPDATE: I watched 45 min. period of Mad Men that I have downloaded and used only about 10% of the battery. Awesome.
– The size is large: about the size of hardback novel.
– Weight is much better: half weight of the MacBook Pro, the same weight as my girlfriend MacBook Air.
– Price point is right: I got mine for € 387 and feel nothing or less than $ 400 a fair price for what you get.
– The screen is small, sharp and clear: the Great would be easier to see, but the little netbook is the point, right?
– Starter Windows 7 is sufficient: It is slow, even with the windows open 4 at a time. I continue to get re-acquainted with Windows 7, the file structure and how to install applications, etc., but it is not the fault of Windows 7 It is a wallpaper application Asus site that allows you to make the picture as wallpaper (see below “Downloads” Windows 7 .. I think it is first on the list).
– Asus tech support was helpful and efficient A: Yes, I had to call, when I was in the beginning of Windows 7 because I got an endless “Initializing icon” during the introduction. They said something must not be installed right up.
– The keyboard is smaller, but acceptable easy to use: Once a small point, so you have to expect some differences. Must be considered when the type or make mistakes (usually I do not write the contact). I hit “z” instead of “move”, if I do not see.
NEGATIVE Impressions:
– Asus almost they hide the phone # for customer support pages and the book lists only netbook with pages. Not good if you do not have access to the web when other problems.
– I had to call Asus support during the introduction. Yes, it was resolved quickly, but this is the kind of thing, you do not have Mac OS and why I get frustrated with Windows.
– Is it to protect against viruses again: Netbook is a free, 61 days protection , but I do not want to have to pay to upgrade and safeguard all the time. UPDATE: See comment below first hint of a free antivirus.
– Not good, “Laptop” computer. It is a very small size makes it difficult to use on your lap. Much easier to use sitting at a desk.
– Pretty hokey, child-like Eee PC, the toolbar displays a link to more stuff you can buy (games, etc.) than the heavy “tool”, which will be made Eee PC experience Eeesier. UPDATE: I figured out how to get rid of this under the settings, so this is not the problem now.
Okay, it is my understanding so far. Updated if it changes. I think I’ll keep it and take its 18-hour flight and two weeks trip to South Africa next week. Hoping to use it to play (a plane), skype, and research travel / touring info off at the same time.
*********** * November 2 Update ****************< br />
I am fond of washing machine every day. I have now put in iTunes and double twist on my machine so that I can synchronize your Palm Pre (phone) and use all your iTunes music and other media purchased through iTunes. Both work well. I have also installed a bunch of things I need to patch the code WebOS Palm Pre and works like a dream. Finally, I downloaded OpenOffice (a free open source word processor, spreadsheet, and slideshow, and more) and plan to use it to pay for MS Office.
*********** * November 23 Update *****************< br />
just returned from a two-week trip to South Africa – the main reason I bought this netbook when I did – netbook and work very well. Skyped I am connected with many different wireless networks around SA, moved hundreds of photos from the memory card on a daily basis have created a slideshow to share with family going back, TV viewers can download is a machine that can read email, look for the weather and surf reports, and only had to download the machine three times the duration of the trip. Awesome!
I have now owned this machine, because about a week after the release (a total of three weeks now) and it continues to meet expectations and more. Windows 7 works well for me (which is a relief, after bad experiences with earlier Windows platforms), battery life is excellent (as advertised), and engineer fees rapidly.
I still have not experienced anything power to make a few other reviewers note, and I think it is definitely worth noting some of the reviewers say is hmmmm was longer than the machine it is broken (and thus perhaps they are again using a different model?).

************ Jan 3.2010 Update *************< br />
I’ve been a machine 10 weeks after your order now it relieves the Day (October 22) one-day shipping. I’ve taken it on several long trips and have it with me every day to work. My battery is high, approaching 10 rated 5 hours less than the average time to load. The battery does not charge a great job status when the device is not powered up snoozing for a week.
I recently received a bluetooth mouse for Christmas (Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (blue)) and blue and netbook. I do not use it for short projects, but it works well, when I sit no longer work with the project. Right now I’m sat on the sofa armrest mouse and all is well.
I also just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium licenses for three of the family to help update package (no longer in print). I had found Workarounds Starter restrictions, irritated and tolerate most of the other restrictions. Asus released a utility that allows changing your desktop background (a shame I said in my original review, below.) Interference of some fancy transparent Aero effects do not really bother me. Another restriction is not really a restriction: you can not create a group home with Win7 Starter Edition. Since this is a new feature in Win7, you need to find another machine Win7 local area network to use any group home. That the second machine can create a group, and Starter Edition machine can then join. It is the only real problem if you have multiple machines Starter Edition or any higher level.
But the last straw that made me upgrade the restriction can not switch between users without logging off. I wanted my wife to pick up the machine and use it even though I had left it logged in my account (and locked, as it is put to sleep). Machine has no problems with amateur Aero effects, but I do not think so exciting that they recommend only increased them. Yet, they are pretty.
************ November 20 Update ****************< br />
While it supports XP read reviews of the predecessor model of this machine (Asus Eee PC 1005HA PU1X-BK-January 10-inch black Netbook – 10 to 5 hours of battery life), this is not the same machine. In addition, Windows 7 is a different hard drive, various web-camera, and yes, a different power source.
Remember when you read other reviews that this machine was released on Oct 22, 2009 – the day that Windows 7 was out. If the reviewer says that they bought a machine before this date, so they do not re-examine this machine! They re-XP model. Comments can still be useful, but remember that they have already decided to mislead you by claiming to look at this model – which they do not own. At this writing, only one of five “1-star” rating has actually reviewed this model. (Jan 3.2010: Now 3 / 15 one-star reviews really discuss the problem with the machine.)
************ October 28 Update *** *************< br />
Read the comments on my review of the first battery of impressions both good comments on other people.
************ Original Post October 24 ****************< br />
It’s been two days of publication After Windows 7, and this netbook. With a one-day shipping, I have played the machine, approximately 6 hours. So, I have some preliminary thoughts, but no great understanding of the battery or to use during the trip (I will try to update when my business trip next week).
My general impression is very positive. It is a small and easy to use. The keyboard and touchpad work as well as my full-size laptop computer. I have installed a number of basic programs, such as Firefox and have not had problems. The only minor disappointment I have is one of the silly restrictions Starter Edition Windows 7: you can not change your desktop wallpaper. It is a silly restriction, but not worth to pay to upgrade Home Premium to win.
One netbook, I bought 2 gig update: Crucial Technology CT25664AC800 2GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Module and external DVD-burner: ASUS USB 2 0 8x DVD Writer external optical SDRW-08D1S-U (black). If you look at pictures above you can see how easy it is to install memory. It will take a bit more force than I liked to remove the memory cover, after removing one screw, but everything else went smoothly.

I bought a netbook because I needed something light and portable. New netbooks are coming out so quickly, or the parents are developing so quickly, even find time to review the review published in the newer, better, cheaper netbook on the market. I had to rely on secondary factors, such as the reputation of the author (ASUS) and editor (Amazon). I know how everyone alone tells me this is a good product with good price.
I got this netbook a couple of days ago. I do not have the time nor the inclination to test comprehensively, and although I made some sort of objectively, I am not a professional product testing. What can I participate in the previous excellent reviews of these findings:
1 Nobody can tell you that it lasts forever. It probably will not. But it seems to be really well done and, as I have said, the company computer parts business in general for many years and the netbook at the forefront of design and manufacturer of the last few years. Memory is expandable, it seems very hard to built in (and the lightweight, plastic-coated netbook), it would be a very long lifetime.
2 It’s not for everyone. Very few things are. It does not seem designed to cover the anticipated use of a wide range of users, however. So an experienced user, some things may seem hokie or sophmoric or over simplified. But it will download and execute programs commonly used by experienced users. So that the novice, it seems much more friendly than when computers were first used them for many many years ago and I bought a laptop a little while ago, too.
3 I do not know ASUS technical support. I rarely use the mainstream product support. When I do, it is usually very difficult to use and not always helpful. So if this is important to you, I can not help you except to say that this netbook really is user friendly compared to many other things I’ve seen and used. For example, I connected to the Samsung DVD with two USB ports and began to use it within a few seconds. Without reading the instructions. I know ASUS anticipate many opportunities to use and deal with them in such a way that technical support is not an option. I mean the EEE which should be easy to use and easy for a couple of other’s, is not it? Includes Windows 7 Starter instead of some older version of Windows or any version of Linux is just one indication of function gives the consumer something new and advanced, powerful and easy to use, is / should be standard for the consumer, and shows that the promise of being relatively bug free.
;
4 Is Windows 7 Starter suck? It works for me. Logo in the middle of the desktop picture can not easily change is OK. I can always cover it with program icons, and it could have been much less sensitive. I do not pay much for the starter version and does not need to pay much, if I later decide to upgrade. Inn other words, the starter version works well and it is my choice, if and when I want to upgrade. I’m all through it currently works well, such as Adobe Acrobat Standard, Quick Books, the latest version of the Verizon Wireless Manager and other brand name of business productivity programs. All is going well so far. RAM is fine. I do not know if it intends to deal with Adobe Illustrator, but I would not be surprised.
5 Are you going to get a better deal if you wait? Probably. Netbooks to get more and better features and the price comes down. A few months ago was the standard 160g hard drive size netbooks in this category. Here is 250g. Two weeks ago the price dropped, so it went up, now it’s $ 20 down. This is a very strong netbook, a very good buy $ 399. 00. If you need it now, if you can use it now, if you get some entertainment value now, buy it now. Value you use it, now more than offset by savings if you wait until after Christmas.
6 Is the battery as much say? I do not watch, but I did some net surfing Pantech 175 USB modem, hard drive loaded with a lot of stuff with separately purchased USB powered DVD burner, and made a few other things, and it is still more than a couple hours left. I could not have come close to doing the equivalent of other laptops and notebooks I have owned.
7 Is it ultra-compact, USB powered, high-performance external CD / DVD writer need? I think so. There are other ways to download software, transfer your music collection, share stuff with others. But nothing so common and convenient. Buy it, use it, keep it in, give it to a friend when they get a new notebook. And Samsung worked fine at (current prices) $ 10 or $ 15 less than the ASUS.
It works, it should, it’s excellence in technology, the price range, it is very strong because of their size and the actual value price wise. And it looks good. It has received many nice comments from people who have seen me with it. My first impression is very good buy.
————-< Br /> December 30, 2009 Update:
;
continues to influence the basic productivity tool. As expected, prices have fallen to this model, but in the meantime the newer models have come out with enriched features. In fact, part of the problem check out some of the netbook is that professionals are not absolute estimates of technically advanced product, and where professional reviews do not start to show, the newer models available. It may help to examine this particular model (and usually strongly positive reviews), and standard assessment is not only new models, the same manufacturer, but also the manufacturer itself.
You can not say enough to the value of long-lasting battery (may not be exactly 10 hours, at least not so I can use it, but terrible for a long time). A recent review of the Asus Eee 1005PE in Laptop Magazine began Michael Prospero says, “It is a good battery life, and then it is off, power-brick-at-home battery life.” This 1005HA-PU17 is indeed firmly in the “off-power-brick-at-home” category, although the “power brick” exaggerates the compact size power supply.
What Starter Windows 7, seems to have been bug free experience. This is a strange thing that is common sense. Whether it is because I use the software that I use a netbook as much as I use the desktop, or something else – most important thing is, I have not experienced any crashes.
Other random observations: awakens soon after opening the lid to return to work after a short or extended break. Yet there was no need to contact technical support for anything. It still looks as great as it was when I opened the box, either because I tend to use the provided sleave more than I thought, or scratch it, but why not discuss it with kid gloves. The screen is “glossy”, but the reflected light is not a problem. Display brightness was never higher than 75%, and then only when it is used in a car in broad daylight. Usually it is about 50%, and not because I try to save the battery, because I do not even think about saving battery power when I use it because the battery is not such a thing could it be laptops or less well-designed for netbooks. Finally, as anticipated, I’ve been using separately purchased external dvd drive rarely, mostly only the first commercial software to download. It’s nice to have but not necessary if you want to watch DVD’s or burn music or stuff like that.
I do not know what else to say, that has not already been said of people who actually own one. My first impression has changed, that this is a good product at an affordable price.

Contrary to first reviewer of this product, I actually own this product and not the previous generation. I’ll keep it short and sweet.
I bought this the day it was released, and it has been now for about 5 days. During that time, I upgraded to 2GB RAM max, was removed a few bloatware programs installed the full version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. If you want a very detailed assessment of this netbook, read reviews 1005HA PU17-BU, it is exactly the same, only blue or black.
The only comments I make is that all I expected and looked, and then some. I did not like Windows 7 Starter, it had some limitations that I do not like, and I purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade and Family was one of my 3 licenses may be used. I did Anytime Upgrade, and it took all of 10 minutes, I do not lose any data, and it works well.
The only glitch I’ve had so far, when I tried to install Windows Update. Every time when it started, my WGT624v2 Netgear wireless router is not locked. Some assistance to Netgear Tech Support Forum, that the problem was quickly fixed. Router’s fault, not netbooks.
As above, except for the first review listed here is someone who does not even own the product, pretty much everything you can read this netbook is true: a good performance, incredible battery life , easy to use keyboard, nice display, a fingerprint magnet surface. I did months of research, and all referred to this (actually, before Win 7 version, and this only adds to that).
If you are looking for the best netbook on the market, regardless of price, look no further.
