I know that some people are using this aa small pc for everyday use, but I just check this from the perspective of HTPC. Right now it is linked to my wireless network and I’m streaming my movies to my flat-screen TV. Its great to watch Hi def content, I thought theres no slow processor could ossibly playback HDMI clearly. I was pleasantly surprised when it setup a bit of flows in the form of any throw it through HDMI. I have downloaded Windows Vista with this, because Windows Media Center, which really helps to manage all of my movies, music and photos. The only question is watch the flash video online, dont get me wrong it is to play a video reasonably well, but occasionally you find shown on video. Flash is currently not configured to use these new processors so watch flash online is an issue, until the lightning 10 1, which will be published sometime next year early. Processor isn’t strong enough to handle high-end computing tasks such as video editing or photoshop, but this isn’t what this pc has been made. Coupple notes about the setup, it comes with windows xp home, OS May Not Provida as much sophistication as most people would like, I installed on this pc is fairly easy. You either have an external DVD-ROM drive or usb drive for at least 4 Giggs free space. If you use a USB drive you’ll need to download the OS DVD to a different computer and copy the files and the usb drive, afterwards connect to this computer and restart the installation and Windows XP. Also good to remember to download all the necessary drivers if you install a new operating system. [. . . ]

This is the third installation of the Nvidia Ion and I am a little surprised. My own are two other Atom 330s (which does not run a bit faster) is Atom 230s so I was a little apprehensive. I bought this unit second HTPC to hook 1080i/720p 36 “LCD our loft. The main HTPC is all the music, recorded TV and movies is a hard drive. I bought this device stream video over my Home Group (Windows 7 Lingo-protected home network). I am registered to start the unit and upgraded its Windows 7 x64 updates for one of my family pack. This makes it easy to copy the setup disk external hard drive and make active. Then change the startup options for the BIOS (DEL key) “USB Boot” and the rest is easy. Do not forget to change it back after the first restart. There are detailed instructions online, if you need help. I upgraded the memory to 2 GB € 18, which, while it was very easy. I do not really have to look to determine the memory settings out of the box for this unit. It is 1 GB (all one SODIMM card) and PC2 DDR2 800 memory. So the update was only adds 1GB SODIMM card. It took 5 minutes. I’ve also changed the BIOS setting uses 512k of memory and the GPU instead of 256k. While the BIOS I set the computer will automatically reboot at 7:00 am. This is one of the great advantages of using the Ion setup, it uses so little power (less than 30 watts), so you can leave the whole day. Of course, it runs a sleep mode (SP3), when not in use, and I speak it out yourself at night. I also added 1GB Flash Drive and install it for use FAT32 Ready Boost drive cache. just to help it work a little faster. So the whole setup program for Windows 7 Media Center was approximately $ 80 and worth it. It works great on my TV and streams all of my content easily over my Gigabit wired home network. With future release of Flash 10. 1 This system is not a problem web-based HD, too. I have tried 32-bit Windows 7 so I can not say much about it. And this system must have an extra 1GB to run 64-bit. It is realllllllly slowly without it. I also subscribe to a media center remote control for $ 25, which works well. Get an external DVD drive (or Blu-ray drive), external data source, and a wireless keyboard / mouse combo (I was totally fine wire version is included because of my children to the trash anyway) and you have very good computer for very little money. These systems do not have a problem with the web surfing or MS Office 2007 so They make a great boy / dormitory computers. I also have no problems with HDMI Output LCD Visio. enjoy!

I bought the Aspire Revo R1600 exclusively to replace my original Xbox running XBMC. It seems to be very capable and has fulfilled all the expectations I had. Accelerated graphics engine XBMC Live via VDPAU works well. Content, which is used to suppress the original Xbox, and even AppleTV running XBMC is working correctly is R1600. I made the switch from one rod matched pair of memory SODIMMs, but I have installed the slower DDR2-667 memory instead of DDR2-800, which was originally included because it is what I had lying around. Pass Mark tests showed a single module DDR2-667 is almost exactly the same speed as the position of DDR2-800 and two DDR2-667 is certainly blew away one -800.

Pass Mark the results are even lower in Windows 7 than they were in default XP build, but Windows 7 is much snappier than XP. I use a 512 MB memory, a BIOS to add the video performance, but you do not want to do it, if only to 1GB of memory installed.

The only complaint I have is that the box is so new Acer is not documents online, and to monitor VESA mount is nowhere to be found. I’d buy another, if someone had them on sale, but Acer does not even list them on their pages, so I do not even have a part number.

R3600 / R3610 with a wireless keyboard and mouse, but the mouse and keyboard with R1600 are very small and unobtrusive. I currently have the box configured to boot 4GB USB thumb drive directly to the XBMC Live, and only the IR receiver connected – keyboard and mouse to keep the box just in case. Lifehacker article sums things up well – almost do not need to dig or XBMC avsforums threads to get things up and running.

Size-wise R1600 is thinner and lighter than the AppleTV. Photos are deceptive, because the keyboard and mouse, but less than “normal” is also bent on each picture. The keyboard is actually about four inches wider than the R1600.

Thing comes apart easily after the removal of one screw on the other side – just fit your finger groove Between light and dark colored plastic pieces and pull, working in finding your way elsewhere in each of the parties until the bandage comes off. Integrated infrared port would have been nice, but the $ 199 I am not going to complain.

I’ve now had my Revo for 1 month and there are many things I like about it and many things I do not like. />
Revo is a small, relatively low powered and simple. No fan noise or heat at all. I see “awesome” is my external hard drive over to first and foremost come out of the Revo.

ION Graphics and HD 5 1 / 7. 1 audio over HDMI working well (when they work). When running any kind of video you need the latest codec which supports ION. Flash-video, only 10 1 pre-release works. WMP 11, Unbox, as well. You can tell it is 2 things: no hope for HD-video out by without it, the CPU is constantly at its peak of 100% without it shows Task Manager Performance tab. Play MKV/MP4 is H. 264 is generally smooth streaming some of the play “a pause” (testing Amazon Demand HD). Streaming supports up to your 100T speeds via a wired network cable. All Hulu works well.

I added an external Bluray player, which is my PowerDVD 8 Deluxe [Old Version] 8 The sound and as good as any Bluray DTS True HD. Getting 5 1 / 7. 1 vote, however, needs an update.

Advice: Do not try to update the nVidia drivers without any planning of a long power outage and you’re likely to lose your HD Sound. Just google “Acer Revo does hdmi audio” and you will see others struggling with this. I made a mistake ION upgraded graphics card from nVidia directly and I lost sound until I did the “Restore factory settings” action packed is a hidden partition in my Revo to back HD audio. NVidia HD audio device is selected by default, so you need to go to Control Panel -> Sound. . . and select it. What happens when I upgraded video card, that what drivers I installed (up to the driver rollback), nVidia HD device does not appear anymore. My friend told me that I needed to remove all nVidea driver drive driver clean, then install all the latest drivers to get that job again. Honestly, I have not tried this yet, because it already sounds really painful.

Have not tried Linux yet, but the temptation to see if I turn over loving this device. Otherwise, I can not complain the price. It brings the PC to my home theater which is nice to do e-mail, etc. I often debate, if I had gone in another direction – Bluray and streaming video support. But then you get what you need to lock the Bluray on (or not) support.

Pros: HDMI, eSATA, SD reader, ION graphics, expandable up to 4GB of RAM! Quiet fan, Solid stand when installed correctly (click to listen)!

Win XP – yes, this is a PRO

Works Netflix instant movies fully, Hulu is a little choppy, but 100% better than a netbook it replaces. I suspect the wireless was an important thing, the netbook and improves over ION graphics Intel GMA950 too. Office works perfectly, the internet perfectly. Plays flash games completely. Basically, this PC is 90% of the things computers are used fully. HDMI audio plays great on my Sharp LCD.

Not need CD-ROM drive. Either use a USB thumb drive or network drive workhorse Primary PC.

Disadvantages: Lid is difficult to remove, but not impossible. It just takes some patience.

Significant bloatware (trial junk software and games). McAfee AV makes the crawling snails pace. This was the first to go and the speed improved dramatically. Dumping of Carbonite and Winlocker junk food too much. Each trial version of the games must be removed separately. Once you have removed all I put Advanced System Care and AVG to clean it up and keep it clean.

Other ideas: This is not a PC editing audio / video or a game and if someone complains that it is an idiot buy this PC. (Many people feel that other sites) All the negative reviews of this PC are the people who do research before you buy. . . or tweaked them into oblivion. I am a geek and I want to tweak things, but I see no reason to switch to Linux, Vista or Win7 even when XP is stable and familiar. HTPC so this does not require any tweaking!

I’m going to add some RAM when I get around it, but I have no problems yet require it.

This computer – XBOX is a game for the system. Apples and oranges. . . Do not be swayed by reviews otherwise. This is also much better than PC Lenovo Q100 (and others) for the same price. . . See Pros above.

R3600 Atom 330 is faster, but also more than $ 100 higher price (like all the PC 330). Again, this is a great 2nd PC. If you need faster than the 230, you must use the primary workhorse PC.
