I thought about this a lot. We netbooks that cost less than $ 400 and is actually likely to create multiple notebooks we gave people three years ago. This week, Acer launched AspireRevo, desktop product Ion with NVIDIA graphics platform, which should sell the business volume of around $ 300 and is really competitive, cash machine, we are likely to pay considerably more today.
This is starting to bug me. We have this amazing new technology that costs less to purchase and use – it typically requires about one third of the force – is considerably more portable, takes much less desk space, it is much quieter, and is usually much more attractive than what is currently afforded to workers. And the market is screaming for better values, we have no business in this category available yet.
Let’s talk about game-changing opportunities for products such as AspireRevo and similar netbooks what they need the business and why we should ask them.
Turning Netbook / Nettop into Notebook / Desktop PC
What AspireRevo Acer presents a convincing combination of Intel’s Atom processor and Nvidia graphics ION system. Most NET type products have a very limited graphics, which significantly reduces their ability in general, and it falls below minimum, and daily use. ION seems to graphics, and a combination of Atom and the ION seems to be the perfect storm in a product which is a small, good looking, quiet, capable and affordable.
About the size of hardback book, or less than 1 / 16 the size of many mini-tower computers AspireRivo is both incredibly small and charming. This cash equivalent to the MacBook Air is one big difference – the purchase price between $ 300 and $ 400. The product is completely out of the gate as well as VGA and HDMI connections to monitors, 6 USB ports, eSATA port and a four-in-one card reader. It is the only one announced this ion technology so far.
The product can be bolted to the wall or behind the monitor, so it is ideal for small cubicles, healthcare, hotel Executive Centres, telephone receptionists, and in particular the most desirable and anyone who does not currently have a high-end PC (only about 5 per cent 7 per cent of employees have high -end-PC, and it could be too).
So, why do business?
Security is missing: Missing TPM, card readers
Part of the problem is that a netbook with Trusted Platform Modules (TPM). Self-encrypted drives are tender requirement, even though they often are not actually in use, business computers for some time. In addition, no one has raised these products biometric reader or smart card reader integrated into them, which makes it more difficult to sell the many shops, which are safety concerns at least as great as their energy-saving concerns. There is no business, who have this technology yet, and the lines come from special services, an increasingly differentiated consumer-PC business PC. And finally, the class usually does not come with optical drives, which are also usually built to the highest PC offers.
However, the security technology can be added quickly and inexpensively. Operator netbooks in business is simply a product manager decision, and given how we usually receive applications and updates to the cloud today, do we really need an optical drive anymore?
Rethinking the Desktop
I am convinced we are at the beginning of the re-emergence of third computer, and that we would be forced to reduce the complexity of the desktop to get the costs down and improve reliability. I think it is time to rethink the desktop, and view products, such as AspireRevo and instead ask “why?” businesses, to ask “why not?
